Watches and Wonders has returned to Geneva for their 2022 salon of horological innovations and excellence after two years of the pandemic era keeping things digital. Founded in 1991, Watches and Wonders was originally known as the Salon de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). This bi-annual trade show for the watch industry elite became known by the fitting name of Watches and Wonders in 2019 and is organized by the Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie. Watches and Wonders has its finger on the pulse of the latest trends and brings watch creators and industry professionals together for this prestigious conference as well as collectors together to experience it through their curated digital content. The salon shines a light on the art of fine watchmaking and features some of the most prominent watch makers from around the world. One such brand is Parmigiani Fleurier.

After the successful launch of their 25th Anniversary Tonda PF Collection in 2021, Parmigiani Fleurier has taken Watches and Wonders by storm this year with the further expansion of this indelible collection. Their exhibit at this year’s salon in Geneva keeps the focus on clean lines and sophisticated technology with timepieces created for watch purists in mind. It can be said that Parmigiani Fleurier is rewriting watchmaking tradition on its quest for purism combined with innovation as reflected on the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, a refined world-first combining discreet complexity with immediate user-friendliness.

In keeping with the minimalist character of the collection, the Tonda PF Rattrapante features an innovative yet simple-to-use dual-time mechanism that preserves its understated nature.⁠ With a simple press of the pusher at 8 o’clock, the upper rhodium-plated gold hand dedicated to local time jumps one hour ahead, allowing the the “home time” of the wearer’s residence to be displayed by the rose gold hand. Pressing the crown-integrated rose gold push-button repositions the rhodium-plated hand on top of the rose gold hand in the same manner as a split-seconds chronograph hand once the second time zone information is no longer required. Shop the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante here.

Tonda PF Skeleton

Parmigiani Fleurier’s second watch premiering at Watches and Wonders takes on the precise expertise of crafting a skeletonized watch with the finesse and artistry the manufacturer is regarded for. The release of the Tonda PF Skeleton shows off the meticulous detailing of the hand-chamfered latticework which commands the attention to detail and finesse most appreciated by watch aficionados. This superb watch is available in an 18k rose gold or steel 40mm case.

The Tonda PF Skeleton is undeniably a watch for the purist’s heart with its contemporary yet understated elegance and restrained aesthetics. The oscillating weight, visible thanks to the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, maintains the most reliable performance and is meticulously crafted in 22k rose gold. Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon

This newest fully platinum contribution to the PF Collection is a perfect celebratory follow up to the limited edition Split Seconds Chronograph released with Parmigiani’s 25th Anniversary in 2021. With only 25 pieces to be made available worldwide, the limited edition Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon is as rare as it is powerful. It shines with sleek refinement in a 42mm diameter case.

The Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon embodies an incredibly sophisticated complication paired with the greatest aesthetic simplicity and refinement, a true paradox of concepts that has clearly been successfully executed. This new model undeniably expresses the Parmigiani Fleurier identity with authenticity in both spirit and materials, with the use of platinum in the case, dial, and bracelet. The flying tourbillon carriage is revealed in all its glory by a circular dial opening, while hidden behind the platinum dial resides the automatic calibre PF517 with a platinum micro-rotor. Tonda GT Chronograph

Inspired by the golden ratio of architecture, Parmigiani Fleurier reintroduces the Tonda GT Chronograph in 2022 with two sporty new versions to round out this fresh collection. The first, the stellar Tonda GT Chronograph 18K rose gold version features the classic chronograph with big date functions positioned below the 12 o’clock. For a pop of contrasting personality and color, it comes with a choice of Quantum grey or Granata red counters and complementing athletic vulcanized rubber straps. 

The 18k rose gold version of the new Tonda GT Chronograph features an integrated self-winding chronograph calibre that provides a 65 hour power reserve. Three counters are presented in Quantum grey or Granata, artfully displayed by 3, 6, and 9 o’clock axises, with the double date window set at 12 o’clock. Thanks to its high-frequency (36,000 vibrations per hour) this incredible timepiece and allows for short-time measurements up to 12 hours with 1/10th of a second precision. Like the 18k rose gold version, the Tonda GT Chronograph Steel is available in the same two color schemes and demands attention on the wrist with its sizeable 42mm diameter case. Both new models offer a 100 meter water resistance, while the steel rendition provides a 45 hour power reserve. A sophisticated annual calendar mechanism is included on this model that accounts for monthly transitions in non-leap years, with ease and simplicity. It only needs manually adjusting once every leap year.
